Power of the Youth

Power of the Youth

I was touched by the variety of Indian panorama, emotional content of the tune, cultural diversity and unity of minds in the vast land of ours. I have cited these examples just to give a glimpse of the richness of our tradition and effort being taken by different agencies to preserve it. There are also many new adventures by institutions and individuals. I have experienced many of them and learnt a lot about my country and our people. Even while pursuing our economic growth, we need to do a lot to preserve the rich and diverse treasures of our culture and civilization. It is our duty for our future generations. This has to be done in a much larger scale through countrywide participation of multiple institutions.

Our country is blessed with natural resources, has shown considerable progress in the last sixty years, and above all we have hard working people particularly the power of the 540 million youth of the country. Every sector of our country has given me the confidence that India can become a developed nation well before 2020. Whomsoever, I met they constantly ask what they can give to the nation. We should constantly strive to empower such members of the society. With this spirit, I am extremely happy that we are on the right path. Here I am reminded of a famous poem:

"When you wish upon a star,
Makes no difference who you are,
Anything your heart desires,
Will come to you?

This poem is true to all of us, and particularly for our youth and if they aim great, I am sure they will reach close to the target or the target.

        Youth, Arise & Awake
‘Youth, Arise and Awake’; these are the inspiring words of Swami Vivekananda. His only mission in life was to awaken the youth of this country to bring back the glory of our motherland. Swami Vivekananda was confident, when he said “The young, the energetic, the strong, the well built, the intellectual for them is the task of re-building our Nation. My faith is in the younger generation, the modern generation; out of them will come my workers. They will work out the whole problem, like lions.” The effect of his thunderbolt-like words was such that many youth who fought for the country’s freedom were transformed into real Lions; to mention a few names- Subhash Chandra Bose, Lokamanya Tilak, Chandrashekar Azad, Bhagath Singh- who made India free.
Unfortunately, after independence, we are mostly concentrating on one aspect, that is western science; in the name of secularism, we have carefully avoided long-cherished values which our ancestors lived for and practiced. There is a popular saying, “If wealth is lost, nothing is lost; If health is lost, something is lost; But if character is lost, everything is lost”, But today what we see in society is quite contrary. Money is playing a very dominant role in the present society. People are prepared to do anything for money, they can go to any extent, they are least bothered about the means. Adulteration, cheating, bribery, theft, scams, scandals, dowry harassment, robbery, exploitation are rampant everywhere. Surprisingly, it is perpetuated by the so-called educated people. This is the right time to remember the inspiring words of Swami Vivekananda. He said “What our country now needs are muscles of iron and nerves of steel, gigantic wills which nothing can resist, which can penetrate into the mysteries and the secrets of the universe, and will accomplish their purpose in any fashion, even if it means going down to the bottom of the ocean and meeting death face to face. Stand up, be bold, be strong. Take the whole responsibility on your shoulders and know that you are the creator of your own country.” Friends this is the right time to make his dream come true. Let us unite to fight against corruption, scams, scandals and other such evils in our society. Let us tell the world that ‘India is a developed country’. Let us make India feel proud of her brave sons.
